2018 NCCA
Convention Was a Blast!
Many thanks to all the board, committees, and
volunteers for putting on a great weekend.
PHOTOS! Convention photographs are now online
here.
It's a FLOOR
fundRAISER!
The Redwood Country Cloggers are holding a workshop
and mini-dance in Cotati
to help raise money to pay for the floors at
convention. You know how important it is to have a
good surface to clog on! Here's your chance to help
make sure that happens. Come support the dance and
donate whatever you can or contact Michele to find out
how you can donate even if you can't attend. More
information on the flier
here.
NOTICE: Late Harvest
Stomp Cancelled
We're sorry to announce that this year's Late
Harvest Stomp in Santa Rosa is cancelled due to the
recent devastating fires in the area. All who have
sent in money for pre-registration will receive a
refund. There are many members of our clogging
family affected by these fires and because of that, we
all are affected. Stay tuned for information on how
you can help.
NCCA's 34th Annual
Convention a Super Blast!
Our 34th annual convention is now history, but a
happy history. Superheroes were in abundance with
perhaps even a villain or two as well. With 18
clogging instructors from all areas of the west and 18
different performances, there was something for
everyone. Many thanks to the hard working board,
committees, and staff for all their work. And thank
you, also, to all the dancers who came and supported
the convention. Pictures will be available online
soon, but if you'd like to purchase a photo CD before
then, contact Lois.
NCCA's
34th Annual Convention to be held in
Sacramento
The dates for the 2017 convention are April 21
and 22, Friday and Saturday. This year we'll be in a
new location, the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Date Avenue
in Sacramento. Sacramento is a large metro area and
centrally located so it's easy to get to from all
areas. Be sure to reserve your hotel rooms soon;
they will likely sell out. Download
the flier for more information. We hope to see
you there!
The
33rd NCCA Convention was a blast!
With 21 clogging instructors/cuers, 17
clogging performance teams and duets, 23 clogging
dances taught, and 5 seminars and special
workshops, everyone had plenty to do. Thanks to
the instructors and dancers for making it another
great weekend.
NCCA
Teachers' Forum Meeting a Success
Ten clogging instructors met on April 30th of this
year for some extremely informative discussions.
Several instructors gave mini-presentations on
Teaching Beginners (Lois), Tap vs. Clogging (Sarah),
Writing Dances (Richard), Performing (Ian), Adjusting
Classes for seniors and others (Janice), and Teaching
Out of State (Michele). After a short lunch break, we
continued with discussions on additional topics such
as: beginner dances, teacher and dancer etiquette,
teaching advanced steps, club management and
insurance, tips for newer instructor/cuers,
wireless mics, and more. Everyone came away with loads
of new information. Thanks to the following for coming
and contributing to the meeting: Lois Elling, Carol
Smith, Sarah Dwight-Gilroy, Heather Smith, Janice
Hanzel, Richard Willyard, Deann Norris, Kellee
Ramirez, Ian Enriquez, and Alli Zamora.

Dancers
Had a Blast at the 2015 NCCA Convention
There were so many things going on at convention that
it was impossible to take them all in. Thanks to
co-chairs Kellee Ramirez and Richard Willyard and
their staff for putting on another fun weekend. The
teachers and dances taught were outstanding and the
exhibition show was varied and impressive as always.
Some photos from Saturday night can be seen at Lois'
gallery here.

NCCA Dancers Perform
a 33-Year Old Routine at SCCA
12 cloggers from Northern California performed a
routine to "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" at the Southern
California Clogging Association's annual convention in
Irvine this past August. The dancers were from several
clubs from Sacramento down to Fresno and the first
time they all practiced together was the afternoon of
the performance. Everyone had a blast performing,
which was obvious to the audience. The routine to
"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" was written by Fran Mason
and taught at the Blossom Hill Festival (first
clogging workshop in Northern California) in 1981.
Several groups have performed the routine over the
years, with the Barbary Coast Cloggers doing the most
to keep it alive. We'd like to thank SCCA for having
us and hosting a fun convention.
Two videos of the performance are online: 1) video
of the performance thanks to Sarah
Dwight-Gilroy, and 2) video
with the introduction thanks to Lois Elling. A
few photos are also available here
with more to come soon.
Dancers Learn 8 New
Clogging Dances at the Blossom Hill Festival
The Blossom Hill Festival showcased 8 teachers with
new dances for the cloggers on July 19th in Belmont.
It was a day full of clogging workshops, seeing
friends, a bit of eating, a short NCCA meeting, and
more clogging in the evening.
Check out a few photos
here.
The
2014 "Hooked on Classics" NCCA Convention was a

emphasis on classic favorites plus new dances, as
well -- dancing, eating, fun, seeing friends,
shopping, winning awesome prizes, and watching a
fantastic exhibition show. Photos will be posted
soon. Watch this website for information on next
year's convention.

2013 Convention a Big
Success and Fun Time!!
Dancers had a blast at NCCA's 30th Annual Convention in
April. We celebrated 30 years of clogging conventions.
Wow! Morgan Hudson from Kentucky was the featured
instructor and kept the dancers moving and laughing all
weekend. We can't wait to have him return.
Pictures of the 2013 Convention can be seen on Lois
Elling's SmugMug site.

NCCA Dancers Perform
in Perfect Cowboy Movie
Several cloggers from NCCA auditioned, practiced, and
then performed as a clogging team and as extras in the
independent film, Perfect Cowboy.
Thanks to Michele Hill for making it all possible. Ken
Roht, the maker of the film, was looking for cloggers
and contacted Michele. Auditions were set up and close
to 30 dancers came. They learned a routine written by
both Michele and Kellee Ramirez, and then performed it
for the judges (Michele, Kellee, and Lois Elling), all
in just a couple of hours. Everyone did a great job. In
the end, 15 dancers were chosen for a team of 12 plus 3
alternates. After an afternoon rehearsal a few weeks
later, it was decided all 14 dancers in attendance (one
was out of town) would be the team.
One scene of a concert was to be filmed at the Barnyard
Theater outside of Davis, California. This gave the
cloggers a chance to rehearse with the band and be
extras at the concert.
The day of the filming arrived on June 30 and all
dancers congregated at The Station in Roseville,
California. The Station is an interesting place, having
been built from old railroad cars. Inside it's a bar,
bistro, and dance hall. The cloggers were in several
scenes: one where the dancers did a clogging performance
in their plaid shirts, then a few were extras dancing
the country two-step, and lastly, cloggers and others
joined in as extras dancing a country-western line
dance, which Kellee choreographed.
It was a fun, interesting, and tiring day. Everyone made
new friends and wouldn't have traded the experience for
anything. After about a year for post-production, the
movie should be out by summer, 2014. Check out the
movie's site for updates.
Pictures of the practice, rehearsal and barn concert,
and bar performance and filming can be seen on Lois
Elling's SmugMug site.
7/14/13Cloggers had a
blast at the 31st Annual NCCA Convention the last
weekend of April. A huge Thank You to all the
instructors for donating their time, the committee for
putting on a great convention, and to the dancers for
supporting NCCA.
Plan to attend the Brittany's Hope Benefit Concert on
May 18 in San Francisco. Not only will you -- and your
friends -- be able to watch a cool clogging show, but
you'll be helping out a young dancer. See more here.

Not only is the 2011
NCCA Convention now history, but so are March Madness
(cloggers' version) and the Doug Chin Clogging Classic workshops.
We've had a lot of great new and old clogging dances
taught at the workshops so far in 2011. Dancers had a
great time at all. To see some pictures from these
events, be sure to check out the NCCA Photos Page.
Congratulations to
Janice Hanzel for receiving the 2009 Lucy
Johnson Award from C.L.O.G. at the National CLOG
Convention in November. This award is presented to an
outstanding contributor to the clogging community.
Kathey Wilson from Alaska was also a recipient this
year. In 2008 Lois Elling (CA) and Anne Mills (WA
and AZ) were presented the award.
Many dancers had a terrific time dancing to a host of
classic clogging dances and celebrating Doug Chin's life
at the Chin-Dig
in Belmont on Sept. 12. Doug's family attended, the
Barbary Coast Cloggers performed, and eight cuers kept
the dancers moving. It was a fun and bittersweet
evening, but mostly fun. Thanks Doug for your
inspiration!
The NCCA
STEP DICTIONARY is now available on CD in pdf

NCCA 2009 CONVENTION A FUN WEEKEND!
Thanks to Kellee, Richard, and the committee for putting
on a fun weekend of clogging workshops, dancing,
exhibtions, and more. In keeping with the RECYCLED
theme, many great old clogging dances were taught. These
were dances that were popular at one time (and maybe
still are), but many recent dancers never had the chance
to learn. These oldies but goodies were popular at the
workshop. Along with the oldies, many new dances were
taught as well. You can check out what was taught from
the program (Friday, Saturday Day, Saturday Night, Sunday) and also see
many photos
of the activities.

BLOSSOM HILL CLOGGERS CELEBRATE 30
YEARS!
The Blossom Hill Cloggers of San Jose,
California, recently celebrated 30 years of dancing.
Lois Elling has been their instructor since the start of
their first class in April, 1977. The celebration
included a dinner, dancing with several guest cuers,
games, memorabilia and just catching up with old
friends. A good time was had by all!
For more information on the club and to see photos of
the event, check out the Blossom Hill Cloggers' webpage.
